Dharma i Okolice

Das Blog des in Polen lebenden Tomek Idzik. Der Titel lautet auf Deutsch ungefähr  „Der Dharma und sein Drumherum“. Untertitel: „Buddhismus aus der Ferne“. Ich spreche kein polnisch, leider, aber Ich kenne Tomek von seinen vielen wichtigen Beiträgen her, die er auf dem Speculative Non-Buddhism–Blog schrieb. Der Untertitel seines Blogs ist wahrscheinlich eine Anspielung auf eine Trope aus Glenn Wallis‘ Text „Nascend Non-Buddhism“: Fitting proximity. A relation of the investigator to Buddhism’s vallation. To close, and the effulgence of Buddhism’s charism blinds; too far away, and the embers turn cold (cf. Nascend Non-Buddhism, p. 16).

hridayartha about this blog: „Dans le sillage d’Advayavajra started as a blog about the beginnings of the Mahāmudrā such as explained by Advayavajra (Maitripa) in his commentary on Sarahas verses. It’s a mystical approach born from Prajñāpāramitā and tantra, but that wants to get to the heart (hṛdayārtha) of their negative and positive methods, which makes it both radical and critical. This approach is very similar to that of radical Dzogchen as taught in the Mind section (sems sde), and especially the first and eldest part of the Kun byed rgyal po, but unlike radical Dzogchen it doesn’t make positive affirmations about self-generated intuition (rang byung ye shes). With the growing influence of the Kalacakra Tantra, the Dzogchen Nyingthig teachings, the development of monasteries as religious-administrative centers ruled by lineage holders functioning, for some time, as mandarins and suzerains to the imperial court, the more spectacular sides of tantrism became the dominating form of Buddhism in Tibet. This had also an impact on the Mahamudra and radical Dzogchen teachings that were integrated in the new mainstream as a sort of preparatory practice for higher tantric practices. The blog also writes about the importance of the mythological aspects (cosmogony, genealogy, magic, predictions…) that are continuously updated in order to support the tibetan ruling or governing clans.“

The main themes of this blog are etymology and the history of language; textual interpretation and criticism, especially the Pāli suttas; the history of ancient India, and particularly the history of ideas with respect to Buddhism; and the integration of Buddhism with contemporary Western Culture, with an emphasis on science. Vermutlich dürfte jedes einzelne Posting dieses Blogs eine Bereicherung für die deutschsprachige buddhistische Landschaft sein. Es geht um Etymologie, Sprachgeschichte, Textauslegung und -kritik  besonders der Palisutren; es geht um die Geschichte Indiens und die Integration des Buddhismus in die westliche Kultur.

David Chaman

David belongs to the weird Aro gTér Lineage – which I find for one reason or another not totally uninteresting – and he produces some important critical thinking. Maybe his greatest contribution to popular Buddhism and its transition into something valuable in the western world is his „Buddhism for Vampires„.

Für Jayarava wie für David Chapman gilt meiner Ansicht nach, daß sie das Feld des X-Buddhismus nicht verlassen. Beide zeigen jedoch eigenständiges und kritisches Denken und heben sich aus der Masse der gleichgeschalteten esoterisch-buddhistischen Blogs hervor.
